French tax credit on pool maintenance: the facts, not the sales pitch.
It is often claimed that pool maintenance qualifies for a 50 % French tax credit. That is inaccurate. The official list of personal services explicitly excludes swimming pools from the household equipment it covers. Since the circular of 11 April 2019, only a narrow scope qualifies: cleaning the surrounds (coping, deck) and the equipment (shutter, cover, enclosure, plant room), with a broom or a brush. Maintaining the pool itself, treating the water, cleaning filters and skimmer baskets and checking the heat pump do not qualify. On Piscine & Spa, every service line states clearly whether it qualifies or not.

How much does professional pool maintenance cost?
A standard maintenance visit is observed between 50 and 70 euros, a full pool clean between 80 and 200 euros, and an hourly rate between 50 and 90 euros. Over a year, a maintenance contract runs from 1,000 to 1,500 euros for a basic package and from 1,500 to 2,600 euros for a full package including winterising and spring start-up. On Piscine & Spa, the price shown is the one the professional entered for that service, not an average.

When should a pool be winterised?
When the water temperature stays below 12 degrees. In practice: before mid-October in northern France, up to late October or early November in the south, and from mid-September in mountain areas.
When should a pool be restarted in spring?
In March or April, when the water sits between 12 and 15 degrees, because algae and bacteria return above 12 degrees. The cost gap matters: a start-up on a pool in good condition begins at around 300 euros, while a start-up with green water recovery is billed between 600 and 2,200 euros.
